Sunday Morning
End of the week, a good time for a new beginning.
It is Sunday — end of the week — a good time to review the past seven days. Reflect on the successes — the defeats — just plain life. What went well — what didn’t.
I am sitting at my desk, pen in hand, scribbling this short memoire. Yes, I am using a real pen and real paper to put my thoughts together.
The sky this morning is a pretty set of clouds that provided an amazing show of color earlier when I got myself out of bed. I am distracted, I am frequently distracted, by a photo of the Yellowstone River from two years ago. It is displayed on my computer screen. A fisherman heading down to the chilly waters of the river. A skiff of snow covers the ground — I yearn to be there — or anywhere — I yearn to get out and explore.
The week, it has been a quiet week, I have been trying to restrain myself. We are off on a major adventure soon which will put a fairly large hole in our pockets. I don’t want to go off and do something now that will impact the bigger adventure.
I have instead, been procrastinating. Rather than do the chores that are piling up, I have been researching and practicing how to tell a better story. I have been strategizing on how to simplify my digital footprint. Things like removing redundant apps from my computer. Like cleaning out my internet presence.
Some weeks ago, I deleted all my personal WordPress sites. Yesterday I shut down my Twitter account. This week I plan to remove Instagram from the scene and reduce Facebook to Family and Friends only.
I have been playing with Buy Me a Coffee — good service I think — not a good fit at this time, so it will follow Instagram.
I will be keeping my Adobe Portfolio site — https://davescott.photography — it is integrated with Lightroom Classic, so the overhead is within my limits. It provides an OK gallery for my better photos.
I plan to expand my participation on VERO. This seems to be a good replacement for Instagram. There are a ton of other photographers going that way which makes it a good place for me to share and to get inspiration.
This leaves me with YouTube and Medium. My goal is to be regarded as a great storyteller. Here, on Medium and on YouTube, we have a great Virtual Campfire that we gather around to hear and share great stories. My plan is to increase my presence on these platforms.
My goal is to be considered one of those storytellers who we all enjoy listening to. My goal is to grow my craft as a writer and photographer. My goal is to become someone you look forward to hearing from.
I would be honored if you would join Liddy and I as we further explore the world and continue to grow.
