Getting Closer to Home
In one week, we can move into our condo in Nîmes. The excitement mounts!
It’s Monday Morning. Another Monday morning. Our 14th Monday here in France, I think.
Liddy is getting better, leaving me undisturbed until seven-thirty or eight o’clock when she drags me out to visit the boulangerie where we pick up some croissants, a chocolatine, and a baguette. Yes, I might influence the direction we take on our morning constitutional. Only a tiny bit though.
We have been staying at an Airbnb here in Moulézan. A cute little space on three floors.
The village is cute too. I think I have mentioned the restaurant, the Café du Poste. The food is very good. It is also a bar and general store and gas station and post office and Tabac. A bit of everything. The boulangerie also acts as a bit of a catch all with milk and juice and baguettes and croissants and… you get the picture.
Moulézan has been very friendly. Liddy opens so many hearts. Very easy to start a conversation. Hard to continue however, my French is so poor, it is improving, though.
About our current accommodation.
It is a classic French stone house located on a lane that might be three meters wide. No, you can’t drive up to the door to unload your groceries. I’m glad we could use Liddy’s trailer to unload our boxes from the car to the front door. It could have been quite the cluster otherwise.
Inside, on the ground floor, there is enough room for our excess baggage and a laundry room. The laundry room doubles as the WC. La toilette.
To the back is a winding concrete stairway that leads to the first floor. This is how we get to the kitchen/salon. Nice setup, oven, large fridge, two burner cooktop or hob. There is a small table with two chairs and a settee. The window, with its red shutters looks out across the lane into the neighbour’s windows which are also adorned with red shutters.
At the rear of the salon, on the other side of the room from the entry stairs is another staircase leading up to the bedroom.
The bedroom is well appointed with a queen size bed, and ample cupboards. The wash basin is located here as is a walk-in shower. All very efficient with nicely coordinated décor. All very mundane… well not so fast.
Liddy is family. Liddy sleeps on our bed. Getting her up the stairs so we can go to bed is a bit of a challenge. After being nipped once or twice I have taken to putting a muzzle on her. She doesn’t like the muzzle or the lift but is getting better. The tricky part is at the top as she struggles to reach the top step. It can become quite the balancing act.
Going down is a lot more straightforward. It’s a good thing that cattle dogs have thick skulls as she has tried the decent on her own. She had a quick trip.
Anyway, we are away from here shortly, on to our new home, a leased three-bedroom apartment in Nîmes. Yes, it is all on one floor. No, it doesn’t have a boulangerie across the street, wasn’t in the criteria at the time. I’m going to miss that feature although my waistline probably won’t.
À la prochaine, à bientôt (until next time, see you).
